From July 17 to July 19, 2026, the final round of the 11th National Biomedical Engineering Innovation Design Competition, organized by the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering and hosted by Hainan University, was successfully concluded. Students from the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine of Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) actively participated in the competition and achieved remarkable results, winning two Second Prizes and one Third Prize at the national level. These achievements demonstrate the strong innovation capability and interdisciplinary training outcomes of HIT students in the field of biomedical engineering.

Focusing on clinical needs and cutting-edge developments in biomedical engineering, the competition covered a wide range of emerging fields, including medical artificial intelligence, biomedical signal analysis, intelligent healthcare devices, biomedical materials, and precision medicine. It provided an important platform for university students nationwide to showcase innovative achievements, exchange ideas, and enhance interdisciplinary research capabilities. The competition consisted of three stages: online review, preliminary evaluation, and final competition, with outstanding projects selected through multiple rounds of expert evaluation.
In the final competition, two projects supervised by Dr. Wei baichun received the Second Prize. The project “EEG-Driven Emotion Recognition for Depression and Healthy Populations”, led by student Liu Jian, and the project “Surface Electromyography-Based Assistive Gesture and Emotional Interaction System for People with Disabilities”, led by student Li Shuheng, both demonstrated innovative applications of biomedical signal analysis and intelligent healthcare technologies. Meanwhile, the project “Nazhukangji: A Motile Drug-Loaded Nanorobot System for Glioblastoma Therapy”, led by student Wen Shicheng and supervised by Dr. Lin Xiankun, received the Third Prize.
The awarded projects cover multiple cutting-edge research directions, including intelligent physiological signal analysis, EEG-based affective computing, human–computer interaction, nanomedicine, and targeted drug delivery systems. By integrating artificial intelligence, biomedical engineering technologies, and clinical applications, these projects demonstrate students’ ability to address real-world healthcare challenges through interdisciplinary innovation.
The outstanding performance in this competition reflects the achievements of the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine of Harbin Institute of Technology in cultivating interdisciplinary talents at the intersection of engineering, medicine, and life sciences. In recent years, the Faculty has actively promoted the integration of scientific research, innovation education, and practical training, encouraging students to explore solutions to major challenges in human health through biomedical engineering approaches.
Moving forward, the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine will continue to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, promote innovation-driven education, and cultivate outstanding biomedical engineering talents with strong scientific creativity and practical capabilities. The Faculty remains committed to contributing HIT’s expertise and innovation to the advancement of healthcare and the development of a healthier society.
