To help students better understand the development trends of the biomedicine and medical device industries, the School of Life Science and Medicine of Harbin Institute of Technology organized a winter career practice program in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Guided by the objectives of industry exploration, career connection, and professional planning, the team visited several representative institutions and enterprises, including Guangzhou Laboratory, Mindray, Xiankangda, and Sonoscape Medical, gaining a systematic understanding of the full innovation chain from basic research and technology transfer to industrial application.
During the program, students participated in company visits, thematic discussions, alumni exchanges, and position-oriented research. These activities enabled them to recognize that the biomedicine and medical device industries are entering a critical stage of innovation-driven and high-quality development. National research platforms emphasized the integration of fundamental research and clinical application, while leading enterprises demonstrated strong capabilities in core technology development, global expansion, and talent cultivation. Through in-depth communication with HIT alumni and industry executives, students gained a clearer understanding of the importance of research training, interdisciplinary competence, lifelong learning, and long-term career planning.
This practice program broadened students’ understanding of the life and health industry ecosystem and helped them connect academic learning with future career choices. Students realized that the industry has a growing demand for high-level R&D professionals, interdisciplinary talents, technology transfer specialists, and digital healthcare professionals. Moving forward, students from the School of Life Science and Medicine will continue to strengthen their academic foundation and practical abilities, contributing HIT expertise and youth power to the development of the Healthy China initiative and the life and health industry.
2026 Winter Career Practice in Wuhan: Biomedical Industry Exploration
To support students in gaining first-hand knowledge of frontier developments and career opportunities in the biomedical industry, the School of Life Science and Medicine of Harbin Institute of Technology organized a winter career practice program in Wuhan. From January 19 to 20, 2026, the team visited three representative enterprises: United Imaging Intelligence, Humanwell Healthcare, and BGI Wuhan. The program focused on high-end medical equipment, intelligent surgical robotics, pharmaceutical R&D, genetic sequencing, multi-omics data analysis, and precision medicine.
The program covered three major career directions in the life and health sector: medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and genetic sequencing. Through company tours, product and technology briefings, HR discussions, and alumni seminars, students developed a more concrete understanding of corporate strategies, job requirements, recruitment trends, and career development pathways. The research showed that the demand for interdisciplinary talents with backgrounds in “biology + engineering,” “biology + computer science,” and “biology + medicine” is rapidly increasing. At the same time, practical project experience, AI tool proficiency, and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills are becoming essential components of students’ employability.
Through this career practice in Wuhan, students further recognized the strengths of HIT students in mathematical foundations, engineering thinking, execution, and problem-solving. They also realized the need to enhance their understanding of clinical translation and real-world medical needs. This program provided valuable guidance for students in planning their postgraduate studies, employment choices, and long-term career development. It also offered practical insights for the School to deepen university-enterprise cooperation, improve talent cultivation, and expand employment resources in the life and health sector.
